DrumSongStory™
(1) An eclectic,
ever-changing, shape-shifting, globe-circling,
archetype-expanding, community- building, boundary-breaking,
mind/heart/ear-opening celebratory combination of Drums,
Songs & Stories
(2) An individual
performance piece that combines drumming, singing, and
storytelling all in a single DrumSongStory™
The Drums/Instruments:
Traditional hand drums from around the world including
African Djembe, Djun-Djun, Talking drum, Irish Bodhran,
Inuit/Siberian Shaman Drum and more...Mark also plays guitar
and Irish Low Whistle and whatever else he can get his hands
on...
The Songs/Vocal
Techniques:
Mark has written over 400 original songs covering a huge
range of subjects accompanied on guitar, drums, piano or
other instruments. Shepard is also an avid practitioner of
Central Asian Overtone Singing, African Yodeling and Throat
whistling
The Stories:
Shepard's repertoire of stories spans the globe and
includes epic adventures, teaching tales, trickster tales
and story-songs. With a full palette of facial expressions
and vocal characterizations, he does more than just "tell"
these stories, he brings them to life. In
some programs he invites audience members to assist him
creating sound effects using a full array of unusual
instruments, many of which are home made.
DrumSongStory™
Programs and Assemblies are appropriate for all ages and can
be tailored to serve a wide range of themes and topics. They
are multicultural, multidisciplinary and support the
multiple intelligences and many curriculum requirements.
Each performance is an entirely customized show depending
upon the audience age, theme, time of year or other
variables. Shepard's material works on a number of different
levels and is well suited to specific age groups or
audiences of children and adults. |
"Just a note to thank you on behalf of the entire Lyme School
Community for an incredible day of drums, songs and stories! The
workshops and performance were outstanding! The staff surveys we
have received have been extremely positive, and I have heard reports of
many new instruments from kids who visited your website that
evening...Thanks again!"
- Linda Winzer, Lyme Consolidated
School PTO |
"Your visit to Naramake School last week was wonderful. I bought
one of your tapes and my kids just love it. They listen to it every
night at bed time they must know every song or story by now, they are
always singing the songs. We are also trying to make some of the
instruments. I just wanted to say thank you and please keep up the good
work."
- Erica Hines, Naramake School, Norwalk,
CT |
"Everyone enjoyed your performance. I only heard rave reviews
from the teachers and my own children who particularly had a good
time.
